Understanding the Process of the Prophetic Journey

Walking in a prophetic calling is a journey that requires more than just a spiritual gift. It involves a deep process of growth, training, and a willing heart. Many people believe that spiritual gifts appear fully formed, but the truth is much different. Just like learning to sweep a floor or wash dishes, we must go through training to use our spiritual gifts well. This process helps us move from making messes to delivering words that truly comfort and encourage others.

The Core Requirement for Prophetic Growth

The most important thing you need is your *focus and attention.* God does not ask for perfection right away. He asks for a heart that is willing to show up. If you fall down, you simply get up again. If you make a mistake, he dusts you off so you can keep moving forward. Many people feel they must do all the hard work themselves. In reality, your job is to incline your ears and your heart toward him. When you continue to show up, God does the rest of the work. You do not need to be an expert to start. You just need to be present and attentive to his voice.

Overcoming the Trap of Shyness and Self-Focus

Being timid can be a major hurdle when you are called to speak for God. If you are too busy thinking about yourself, you cannot hear what the Lord is saying. Shyness often hides a deeper issue called **self-idolatry**. This happens when you focus so much on your own feelings or fears that you ignore the message God wants to give.

The Problem with Perfectionism

Perfectionism is another form of self-focus that hinders the prophetic process. It makes you feel like you would rather crawl under a table, than be put on the spot to speak a word, especially to a stranger. This spirit of perfectionism often comes from:

  • Fear of making a mistake.
  • Fear of saying the wrong thing.
  • Questioning every word you hear.
  • Focusing on your own performance over a need of the recipient.

When you are trapped in these thoughts, you get into trouble quickly. You must cast off these heavy feelings to clear the way for the Spirit.

When you give a prophetic word, the reaction of the person in front of you can be distracting. Some people are stoic and show no expression. This can make you feel like you are not hitting the mark. Other people are very encouraging and want to help you with more information. Both reactions can pull you away from what the Spirit is saying. Beware of these distractions.

Dealing with the Fear of Man

The fear of man is a common issue for those in the prophetic. You might worry about offending someone or triggering a bad reaction. If you see someone frown, you may feel the urge to backpedal or change your words. To stay on track, you must remain *resolute*. Some people even close their eyes or turn their heads away to avoid being influenced by the receiver’s soul. You have to trust that if you ask God for a word, he will honor you with a truthful, timely and significant response. It is his heart to speak even more than it is yours.

Prophecy as a Seed for Potential

A prophetic word is rarely just about the current moment. Often, a word will not resonate with a person right away. This is because God speaks to a person's *potential* and their original design.

Aspect of Prophecy | Description

  • Timing - Words often reflect the future rather than today.
  • Design - God speaks to who he created you to be in the very beginning.
  • Portals - Prophetic words can open new opportunities and shifts.
  • Seeds - Words act as seeds that impregnate the atmosphere for later growth.

If you only look at your current circumstances, you might miss what God is doing. Prophecy unlocks possibilities that are connected to blessings God has always had in store for you. It gives you a vision to move forward when you feel stuck.

Working With God vs. Working For God

There is a massive difference between doing work *for* God and doing work *with* God. God is not interested in religious activity that happens outside of the influence and call of his Spirit, no matter how altruistic. If you are doing things just to get credit or feel valuable, it is often just "noise."

The Danger of Performance

Many people fall into a "religious programming" trap. They stay busy with orphanages, volunteering, or giving money because it makes them feel productive or valued. If these actions are not led by the Spirit, they are considered works of the soul/flesh. Using service as a place to hide is common. It provides a false sense of self-worth. However, God loves you even if you never do another thing for him. He wants a *personal relationship* more than he wants your activity. You are called to be a co-laborer, not a lonely worker trying to earn points.

The Power of Gratitude and Humility

God is not moved by our desperation, anger, or pride. He is moved by a humble and teachable heart. The Israelites were taught to recount the goodness of God from one generation to the next. This helped the younger generation have a strong capacity to see God’s goodness.

Staying in the Proper Focus

When we focus on our "wants" and "needs" in a desperate way, we act from our soul and flesh. To hear God clearly, we must:

  1. Enter his courts with thanksgiving.
  2. Maintain a grateful heart.
  3. Stay humble and admit we know very little.
  4. Be teachable and willing to learn.

Gratitude opens doors. If you are thankful, God can keep moving you forward because your heart is open to his direction.

Learning Patience in the Process

It is very easy to jump ahead of God. When you hear one word, you might want to run off and take care of it yourself. This is like the story of Abraham and Sarah. They received a promise but could not wait, so they tried to "help" God. This usually leads to an unnecessary price to pay. One that will not be pleasant.

Staying in Your Lane

God often keeps us on a "short leash" because he knows our tendency to rush. If you are not seeing movement, it might be time to *be still.* God knows about your bills and your responsibilities. He also knows if you are lazing around or if you are truly waiting on him. Short-changing the process leads to "gunk" on your ministry. You must allow him to prepare you so that your expression of his heart remains pure. There are no shortcuts to spiritual maturity.

The Importance of Teamwork and Unity

God loves team environments. He places the right people together to support one another. However, for a team to work, there must be *unity.* Competition kills the ability for God to use a group. A strong team looks out for each member. If one person is weak or suffering, the others stand in the gap for them. This creates stability. In a healthy prophetic community, people become like family. They fight for each other in the spirit and show up when it matters. This kind of connection only happens where God has specifically called you to be.

Moving Forward in the Prophetic

The prophetic well is deep and full of life. As you mature, you will start expressing the heart of God more clearly to those around you. This involves building your character and staying committed to the process. Whether you are being trained by others led by the Holy Spirit, or directly by Holy Spirit, your goal is a deep relationship with the Father. The journey is an adventure. It requires you to be brave and to stop trying to please people with flattery and other carrots. Instead, deliver what God says with a clean heart. This is the path to truly bridging realms and seeing God's potential come to life in the world.

Conclusion

The journey into the prophetic is a process of refining your character and your focus. It is not about how loud you speak or how many people see you. It is about how well you listen and how willing you are to be a seed of hope for others. When you stop worrying about your own performance, you can finally hear the clear voice of the Spirit. Stay humble, stay grateful, and keep showing up. God is looking for partners who will work with him to unlock the future. As you continue to walk this path, remember that the work is ultimately his. Your job is to stay in the lane he has provided and trust his perfect timing.
